Happy 50th Cliff !!!!!!
Happy Birthday Cliff Burton !!!
Clifford Lee "Cliff" Burton (February 10, 1962 – September 27, 1986)
also as a side note: is my 41st
Cliff was one of my main influences as a teen, IMO he was the poster child of what a true musician should be.
He was the reason I became interested in playing Guitar (initially Bass obviously, but led to me playing Guitars in general), Even my High School yearbook quote was a tribute to Cliff (Lyrics from: To Live is To Die)
I cry every time i think of how different Metallica would be today if Cliff was still with us.
Rest In Peace Cliff we miss you !!!

9/11 Grafitti Tribute
Shortly after the attacks of 9/11, I found these images while doing some web surfing. 10 years later it seems appropriate that they find their way back to the web.

keeping with the 2's .....
Moving on a few years to 1993.I had to sell the Nova (too much maintenance, and a lil help blowing the motor and tranny from a friend who will remain nameless). Now i have a '84 Honda CRX "a skateboard with a roof", another good lil car but nothing like my Nova. I seem to have the same 2-tape problem i had before though ... only this time its D.R.I. (a bit of a metal-to-punk transition i was going thru right around the time of the break-up of my old band October's Finest).Just like Testament these poor puppies would flip 30-40 times over before i decided i had enough and swapped to the other ... #'s 5 and 6 in my list ...

2 for tuesday ?
So the year was 1990 and i needed a new car.A friend of mine that knew my taste told me about one he saw on the roadside about 10 miles from my house, so i went and checked it out.I bought it that day!It was a little more than what i was looking for actualy ... but what a great car, 1978 Chevy Nova fully set up for 1/4 mile drag: '65 327 small block pushing around 400 hp, pretty much everything minus a rollbar.Once had a cop let me go after getting me doing 60mph in a 30mph zone, after giving him the grand tour i guess he forgot to write out the ticket. Wish i still had some photos, it was a bad-ass car.During the 1.5 years that i owned it,2 cassettes had a dominant rotation, i'd play one for a couple weeks (30-40 flips) and then when i was sick of one ... i'd swap for the other, i can't state numbers on the amount of plays but these 2 come in easily at #'s 3 and 4 in my list of all-time most played.

and
nothing like being able to go 0-120mph in 8 seconds while cranking the shit out of songs like: "practice what you preach", "Blessed in Contempt" and "Greenhouse Effect"

continuing on with my most played list
Queensryche,oh how i loved Queensryche ... i first heard 'em at my dad's house(my parents divorced when i was 2 or 3 and i never realy recall meeting him until i ws 14, and even tho i didn't grow up around him, we oddly have very similar musical tastes).Just so happened one day he pulled out something he had recently bought: Queensryches The Warning album and I instantly fell in love with it and had to borrow it from him many times, eventually buying my own cassette. The Summer of '85 yielded ALOT of playtime for The Warning along with hearing Take Hold of the Flame for many many many continuous weeks on Headbanger's Ball on MTV.When Rage for Order was released i was already entranced by their video for Gonna Get Close to You,it was a little more creepy and a little less proggy than the stuff on The Warning.I went out ASAP and bought Rage for Order and wasn't disappointed.Rage delivers prog metal at its best without being "too proggy".With hits like: Walk in the Shadows,The Killing Words,Neue Regel and London (the latter 2 being my fav 2 songs on the album) making it one of,if not THE,best prog metal albums of all time, and #2 in my list of alltime most played.Even tho it fell in dishwater and i had to dry it out over a weeks time, one corner of the cassette broken off, partially sun warped and all its other adventures ... I've played that cassette over 350 times ...

... More Reflections
So ... Back in High School i had this realy shitty Radio/Turntable/8-track/Cassette player, but it played music and thats all that mattered to me.One staple that was ALWAYS playing was my Ziggy Stardust 8-track,that thing flipped 3-400 times easily.
Any time i was jus chillun in my room Ziggy was playing.even in my sleep.Heres #1 in MY Most Played collection at 450+ playings ...

Thinking back to the early days ...
Throughout my life there was always music playing, be it at home with mom playing records or while driving listening to the radio. In all honesty my mom had realy bad taste in music, i recall alot of disco and alot of 70's pop music resonating into my room while i played. When i finally came into liking my own music, and having my own radio, it seems my taste was quite different.
2 of my earliest recollections that actualy stuck were Blondies Parallel Lines and The B-52's original self-titled. Anyone who hasnt heard Blondies Heart of Glass or One way or Another or The B-52's Planet Claire or Rock Lobster just wouldnt understand ..... i was 7-8 years old then and these albums still pull their weight today.
Blondie - Parallel Lines (1978)

recently a 30th Anniversary edition was released with bonus material.
